What does Stand.earth stand for in the age of Trump?

You may have noticed here at Stand.earth we’ve been talking a lot lately about issues that don't directly relate to our climate-based campaigns. From emails to Facebook posts and tweets, we’ve been sharing articles and analyses about all sorts of issues -- ranging from immigration to health care to LGBTQQIA2S+* to #BlackLivesMatter. There’s a reason for this.

We're facing a severe human rights crisis.

The Trump administration is attacking people of color, immigrants, Muslims, undocumented peoples, women, people who identify as LGBTQQIA2S+*, indigenous communities, and more.

Government agencies tasked with protecting civil rights, gender equality, and indigenous protections are facing censorship and full blown internal witch hunts. The very fabric of our democracy is in question -- as proven by the increasing willingness of the administration to break laws and violate the constitution in order to accomplish its goals.

To do this -- in the months and years ahead -- we’re going to need to team up with allies across movements for social, economic, and environmental justice to defeat the Trump Administration and the xenophobic right that helped him ascend to power. The same powers attempting to force the Muslim ban and build a border wall are the same powers who are trying to push through the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines. They’re the same powers attempting to strip millions of people from access to health care and reproductive rights. They’re the same powers pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreements and moving to rapidly deregulate the fossil fuel industry. They’re the same powers that threaten to topple fragile relations with allies abroad and generate global instability that could lead to war.

These forces of intolerance and greed must be stopped, and we must be united to win.

We’re standing up to Trump in the following ways:

  1. Amplifying calls to action: When allies need support, whether to block deportations or the Dakota Access Pipeline, we'll share those calls to action widely.
  2. Showing Up: We’ll show up on the ground to support communities under attack like helping organize the #NoDAPL mobilizations in San Francisco and being part of the United Resistance.
  3. Building the Resistance: Through our programs such as the Business Ethics Network (BEN) and Crude Awakening Network (CAN), we work to convene and support grassroots activists across North America working on a wide range of progressive issues.
  4. Fighting at the Local Level: When we wage campaigns to fight Big Oil, we win. In 2017 and beyond, there will be many opportunities to continue doing what we already do well, and defeat the industry at the local level.

Our mission at Stand.earth is to challenge “corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect, because our lives depend on it.” That means, when communities are NOT treated with respect, we’ll stand beside our allies to hold the line.
