Take the pledge to vote for the climate at RBC's 2022 AGM now

Every year banks hold Annual General Meetings (AGMs) for their shareholders to meet with the Board of Directors and vote on the company’s policies and direction. This year, around the world, shareholders at fossil fuel financing banks have submitted, had accepted, and will vote on similar climate-related resolutions to stop the flow of money from banks to fossil fuels. We need you to vote in favour of three climate-related resolutions at RBC’s upcoming AGM to send a strong message to management that they must do more, now, to be a real climate leader.

Canada's five largest banks – RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, and CIBC – all rank among the top 25 fossil fuel lenders in the world, collectively lending well over half a trillion dollars to fossil fuels since the Paris Agreement was signed, including hundreds of billions into fossil fuel expansion. This conflicts with the International Energy Agency's pathway for net zero, which concludes: "There is no need for investment in new fossil fuel supply in our net zero pathway" because "no new oil and gas fields are required beyond those already approved for development." All of these banks are also big backers of the Coastal Gaslink fracked gas pipeline and considering new investments in the Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline.
