Anna Barford

Anna Barford

Canadian Shipping Campaigner

Anna (she/her) grew up in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples known as Vancouver. She started her environmental life out in the technocratic world - studying to be an environmental engineer then adding economic management and policy studies to a trip around the world. Anna came home inspired by the potential for Canada to take climate leadership in a world becoming more desperate for it. She quickly learned that not all was as it seemed. Organizing found her in the winter of 2016 and brought her into her first volunteer role in a people powered campaign. She hasn’t turned back since.

Those volunteer roles lead Anna to work on campaigns with Dogwood, My Sea to Sky, and Georgia Strait Alliance supporting people taking action and building community. She is always looking for new and established ways to engage, to build community capacity, and get together to win big in the ways that our oceans need us to.

When not campaigning you can find Anna enjoying the Salish Sea and the Coastal Mountains, organizing community festivals, engaging with the IIIEE network, trying to meet your dog, and getting enough sleep.
