Virginia Cleaveland

Communications Manager

Virginia joined Stand.earth in October of 2017, serving first as the organization's press secretary and then as a communications manager supporting campaigns in the U.S. and internationally. She works within every level of the organization — from executive leadership to campaign teams — to help Stand.earth engage with a variety of audiences on a wide range of campaigns through creative and effective storytelling.

Before joining Stand.earth, Virginia worked as a communications and public relations professional for local environmental organizations focused on clean energy, clean water, and land conservation. Prior to joining the nonprofit world, Virginia worked for several years as a professional journalist, serving as editor and designer at two area newspapers. She holds a B.A. in journalism from the University of Montana and an M.Ed. in environmental education from Western Washington University.

Raised in Montana, Virginia came to the Pacific Northwest after graduating from college and quickly put down roots in Bellingham, where she has spent the past eight years exploring the Salish Sea ecoregion. When she’s not at Stand.earth, Virginia enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, gardening, and checking out too many books from the library.
